David T. MacMillan, MD, FACS, R.V.T., is a board certified surgeon and phlebologist, active in the practice of general and vascular surgery for over 20 years. He has been specializing in Phlebology, a new field of medicine treating nothing but diseases of the venous system. For the past four years, he has been gaining great insight to the field, allowing for his practice to become very successful with great results from his patients. He is now a board certified phlebologist after passing the American College of Phlebology boards. He has lived and practiced in the New River Valley of Southwest Virginia for over ten years. He attended Baylor College of Medicine, and trained in surgery in Houston, Texas, under Dr. Michael DeBakey, a pioneer in many areas of diseases of the vascular system. Dr. MacMillan is a member of The American College of Phlebology, an association founded in 1985 focusing on veins and their incurring diseases. Both during his training, and subsequently throughout his broad and diverse practice experience, he was frustrated by the lack of effective methods for the treatment of varicose veins. The development of new techniques, based on new technologies, and improvements in diagnostic instrumentation have given a new impetus to treatment of venous diseases and conditions, once felt to be untreatable by such luminaries as Dr. DeBakey. Dr. MacMillan distinctly remembers the frustration with which his mentor would approach patients with chronic venous disorders. After having visited with a friend and colleague from Houston, Dr. Mark Skellenger (Cosmetic Vein Centers of Texas), it became apparent that a new approach to treatment of vein disorders was available. Dr.MacMillan has trained in Dr. Skellenger's office, mastering the newer skills and techniques, and thus Cosmetic Vein Centers of Virginia. The Cosmetic Vein Centers of Virginia have been successfully treating patients since 2004. Over time, Dr. MacMillan has perfected his practice in treating problematic veins that cause dull, aching, tired feeling legs. |
